Leonard Weber

Mass of Christian Burial for Leonard Anthony Weber, 87, of Staples, was held on Tuesday, February 7 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples. Leonard passed away on Friday, February 3, 2012 at the Clarissa Todd County Care Center.
Leonard Anthony Weber was born in Sturgis, South Dakota on February 6, 1924 to John and Clara (Kissrow) Weber. They lived on a farm in Clough, South Dakota, near Union Center. He went to country school through 8th grade and then went to work for neighbors. He spent a year in the Army during WWII in the 95th Chemical Service.
In 1947, he married Theresa Ramona Kusser at Immaculate Conception Church in Stephan, South Dakota. They moved to Minnesota in 1962.
Leonard liked to work and be busy. He liked farming, gardening and fixing machinery. He enjoyed his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids coming to visit. He belonged to Sacred Heart Church and the American Legion Post No. 70.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Theresa Ramona Kusser, of 64 years; five children, Gary (Nancy) Weber of Aldrich, Karen Weber of Coon Rapids, Donna (Gary) Gabler of Eagle Bend, Janice (Tom) Dahl of Carver, Dan (Suzette) Weber of Woodstock, Georgia; fourteen grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister and brother.
Interment will take place at Evergreen Hill Cemetery.

Arlene Simar

Funeral services for Arlene Jessie Simar, 88, of Eagle Bend were held on Monday, January 30, at the Eagle Bend Assembly of God Church with Pastor Robert Mumm presiding. Arlene passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa.
Arlene was born on May 25, 1923 to Ralph Sr. and Abbie Mabel (Ingalls) Orr at their home in Eagle Valley Township. She graduated from Clarissa High School in 1941 and for a number of years during World War II she worked at the ammunition plant in New Brighton. She was united in marriage with Ira Donald Simar on September 10, 1947 in Eagle Bend and together they operated a farm and raised their family.
Arlene took care of the paperwork side of the farm. Ira would say that her business skills made him a successful farmer. Later, after retiring to their home in Eagle Bend, she volunteered at the Care Center in Clarissa. She served on the boards of the Eagle Bend Senior Center, Eagle Bend Cemetery and was active with the Assembly of God Women’s Ministry. She and Ira enjoyed traveling, including several trips to the West Coast and Pennsylvania to visit relatives. They made a special trip to France in 1997 to visit their son, Byron and his family.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Ira, on April 21, 2006; parents Ralph and Mabel; brothers Leslie, Ralph, William and Horace; and sisters Myrtle Tweet, Carrie Simar and Florine Tyrrell-Smith.
She is survived by her sons Keith (Candace) of Pequot Lakes, Douglas of Eagle Bend and Byron (Sondra) of France; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers were Arlene’s nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Nathaniel, Burton and Kendall Simar, Wayne Tyrrell, Allen and Larry Refsland and David Orr.
Interment was in the Eagle Bend Cemetery at Eagle Bend.
