Mavis Missling

Memorial services for Mavis Winifred Missling, 89, of rural Hewitt will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 2, at the United Methodist Church in Hewitt with Pastor Jill Pawlowski presiding. Friends may call one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Mavis passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at the Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena.
Mavis was born on May 17, 1922 to Emil and Winifred Polzin at their family farm near Storden. She was united in marriage with Raymond Edward Missling on December 5, 1939 at Jeffers. They moved to Hewitt 68 years ago where they operated their farm.
Mavis was a farm wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Hewitt’s UMW and sang in the church choir. She worked hard making the yard beautiful with flower gardens in the summer and ice castles and Christmas decorations in the winter. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed baking cookies and sharing them with family and friends.
Mavis was preceded in death by her husband Ray on December 4, 2006; parents Emil and Winifred; brothers Russell and Arnold Polzin; sisters Mabel Thynes, Arlene Westerland and Delores Tolifson; and granddaughter Dena Missling.
She is survived by her sons Vernelle (Linda) of Menahga and Robert (Connie) of Wadena; daughters Janice (Marvin) Larson of New Prague and Karen (Ronald) Grewe of Bertha; 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mavis’ grandchildren.
Interment will be held at a later date in the Mt. Nebo Cemetery, rural Hewitt.

Patty Horn

Memorial services for Patty Nadene Horn, 74, of rural Hewitt, were held on Friday, December 23, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bertha with Pastor Blake Rickbeil presiding. Patty passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center—Fairview in Minneapolis.
Patty was born to William and Dessie Taylor on January 30, 1937 in Staples. She attended and graduated from Staples High School. She married Delbert Horn on June 27, 1959 in Staples.
Patty and Delbert first made their home in Verndale and then outside of Hewitt. She worked as a waitress and Certified Nurses Technician in Wadena. She also worked for Mark and Kathy Wiese caring for their children and then for McDonalds in Wadena.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents William and Dessie; children Delrae Marie Horn and Kevin William Horn; and seven sisters.
She is survived by her husband Delbert; sons Scott and Richard (Lisa), both of Hewitt; daughter Angela Horn of Fargo, North Dakota; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother; and many family and friends who loved her dearly.
Honorary pallbearers were Michael Horn, Darcy Mindermann, Jennifer Manley, Carl and, Sarah Lindner, Kasey, Robert and Nicole Horn, Alexis Paulson, Hailey Mindermann and Sophia Voeltz.
Interment was in the Oak Valley Cemetery, rural Hewitt.
