Turner earns license at 160 mph

Attaining your passenger-car license can mean many different things to a sixteen year-old student. The privilege can symbolize freedom, or simply the ability to drive to school, work or travel out of town with friends. For Lauren Turner, local teenager and drag racer, it meant being eligible to also license in the quickest of the National Hot Rod Association’s (NHRA) sportsman heads-up index classes.

Organizations awarded Operation Round Up grants

Todd-Wadena Electric Cooperative’s Community Trust Board awarded $9600 in Operation Round up grants this month to 10 local organizations. They are: city of Bertha—$1200 toward playground resurfacing; Bluffton Fire & Rescue—$450 toward CO/combustible gas detection; Kinship of Todd-Wadena Counties—$1000 towards activities for kids; M State-Wadena—$1300 toward 10th Grade Career Day; Riders of the Crow Wing—$950 for Class 5 gravel for arena; Wahoo Valley MN Deer Hunters Ass’n—$900 toward gun safety classes; Menahga Schools—$300 for Post Prom; Staples Senior Citizens—$500 for portable air conditioner; Todd Co. Council on Aging—$1000 for electronic communications; OtterTail-Wadena Long Term Recovery—$2000 toward windows and doors for tornado victims.
Funds for Operation Round Up come from Todd-Wadena Electric Cooperative members who allow their monthly electric bills to be rounded up to the nearest dollar, with the change allocated to the Community Trust fund. The average donation is less than fifty cents a month, yet the Trust fund typically donates about $30,000 annually to community service projects in the two-county area.
Todd-Wadena’s Operation Round Up grant applications are reviewed and recipients selected three times a year by an eight-member volunteer Community Trust board. Application deadlines are the 15th of January, May and September.
Local, nonprofit community service groups may apply for Operation Round Up grants by stopping by or calling the Cooperative office at 800-321-8932 or by downloading a copy of the application form and guidelines from the Todd-Wadena website: www.toddwadena.coop.

WEATHER
  Verndale, Minnesota, weather forecast

This is Baby, she is a three year old minature pomeranian. Her owners are Cal and Cindy Wolf of Eagle Bend. Baby is "spoiled". She loves to ride motorcycle with Cal. She gets mad when she can not go with him, she lets him know when he returns. She does most of the charity rides. She also loves to sit in the window of the house and keep people in line that are to close the her property line. She is a big part of our family. Thanks for letting us share her story.
