School lunch...
Many of us can remember having lunch at school, standing in line to wait for that hot lunch to warm us up. We might have complained about what it was that we were getting, but I personally don’t remember seeing many of my peers turn it down—no matter what it was.

Forums to be held for Eagle Valley levy
Voters who want to get more information about the Eagle Valley excess levy vote which will take place on Tuesday, November 8, are invited to attend a town forum either November 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Eagle Valley cafeteria in the Clarissa building or on November 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Eagle Valley ag classroom in the Eagle Bend building.
Please come with your questions about the upcoming vote.

Sewer concerns prompt meeting
State Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen and State Legislator Mary Franson and Todd County Commissioners have been invited to attend and discuss central and northern Todd County citizen’s concerns regarding the rules and regulations pertaining to rural sewer systems. The meeting will be held on Saturday, October 29, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Eagle Bend City Hall. Current tactics employed by the Todd County Planning and Zoning office and the MN Pollution Control Agency and their implementation of rules and regulations will also be addressed.
You are encouraged to attend this meeting to express your concerns regarding these issues.

When students have problems at school, they usually turn to teachers or administrators for help in resolving them.
But, how about empowering them to deal with these issues on their own?

Hit and run in Hewitt
According to a report from the Todd County Sheriff’s Department, on October 12, at approximately 5:17 p.m., Richard Sullivan reported someone in a dark SUV vehicle had just struck his Dodge pickup that was parked outside his residence on Main Street in Hewitt. The pickup received minor damage to the right front and fender area.
On October 12, a second accident occurred at the intersection of Power Avenue and Power Street in Hewitt. A black SUV backed into and over a mailbox post and seven boxes attached. The vehicle then left the scene and was later found parked near some pine trees just west of the David Moats’ residence on Power Avenue. The driver had left on foot.
Noah Wolfe of Brainerd, the owner of the vehicle, was located on October 13 and admitted driving the vehicle at the time of the accidents and leaving the scene without notifying the property owners of the damage.
Criminal charges are pending.

The Corner Market will be closing

The Corner Market grocery store in Bertha is slowly reducing its inventory over the next couple of weeks to eventually close its doors.
While the owner, Vicki Larson, has been trying to sell the business for the past five years, no takers have been found.
To close the market has been a difficult decision for Larson as she knows it will greatly affect the community and the surrounding area. But, she is in her 22nd year of owning the grocery, and is ready for a change.
The final ending date is uncertain at this time. It will all depend on how quickly the inventory dwindles down on the store’s shelves.

Eagle Valley’s Blue Ribbon award
ceremony
An awards ceremony will take place in the Clarissa gymnasium at 2:15 p.m. on Friday, October 28. The ceremony will recognize the achievements of Eagle Valley Elementary on the state mandated tests and other key components used to measure school success.
Eagle Valley was selected for the prestigious Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award by the U.S. Department of Education based on their consistent improvement over the past five years. The school board, administration and staff recognize the important contributions parents and community members make in the students’ success. Therefore, we invite parents and community members to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion.

The Parkers Prairie scoreboard brightly illuminated the ending score of 62-10 last Wednesday evening while the Rebels football team huddled together to celebrate their win. A win that marked a perfect regular season of 8 and 0 and named them as conference champions.

Rick Nelson from rural Eagle Bend made no bones about it, he was “sick and tired” of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency “not listening to the peasants out here” in regard to sewer regulations in rural areas.

New Videos for this Week
"Newspapers' Place in History" shows how newspapers were produced in the past, using letterpress equipment. It also describes the important role newspapers play in democracy.
The DVD was shot at the Minnesota Newspaper Museum, located on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul. The museum funded by private donations is a working newspaper office as they were in the 1930s.
This is a snippet of the 15 minute documentary produced by the Minnesota Newspaper Foundation with a generous grant from the Minnesota Historical Society's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, made possible by the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment to the Minnesota Constitution established in November of 2008.
