Mayor Juanita Mitchell served on the City Council for the City of Hewitt for eight years prior to being elected Mayor in 2008. Mayor Mitchell is very active in the community, as the President of the Hewitt Lioness as well as owning and running a licensed adult foster care, with her husband, out of their home. Mayor Mitchell is very instrumental in the organization of the Hewitt Pickle Festival, the annual Hewitt Santa Day and many other community activities.
Council Members
Don FitzGerald
Mr. FitzGerald "Fitz" has served on the City Council since January 2009. Mr. FitzGerald retired from United States Navy, after many years of service to our Country. He is a veteran of foreign wars and moved to Hewitt in 1998. Mr. FitzGerald was asked and encouraged to run for City Councilman in 2008 for the 2009-2012 term in office. Mr. FitzGerald was elected to office, receiving the highest number of votes for a four-year term. Since his service on the City Council began, he has been instrumental in improving our parks, streets and overall City in general.
Johannes Marsland
Johannes Marsland is currently serving his second term on the Hewitt City Council. Mr. Marsland is a minister for a local church as well. In addition to his service on the City Council, Mr. Marsland is an active Volunteer Fire Fighter for the City's Fire Department.
James Opelia
Mr. Opelia was elected to serve a two-year term beginning in January 2009. He resides in Hewitt with his wife and four children. In addition to serving on the City Council, Mr. Opelia serves as principal for Sacred Heart Area School in Staples. When he is not busy with work or school, Jim enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Alice Schweninger
Alcie Schweninger has served on the Hewitt City Council since 2006. She is active with the Hewitt Historical Society and many other community events.
