Elected Officials

Mayor:  Juanita Mitchell served on the City Council for the City of Hewitt for eight years prior to being elected Mayor in 2008.  Mayor Mitchell is very active in the community as President of the Hewitt Lionesses, on the Hewitt Pickle Festival Committee, Hewitt Santa Day organizer as well as owning and operating a home based, licensed adult foster care with her husband.


Council:  James Opelia was elected to serve a two year term beginning in January 2009.  He resides in Hewitt with his wife and four children.  Mr. Opelia is principal for the Sacred Heart Area School in Staples, MN.  Opelia has been instrumental in city street planning and in many over-all city issues.


Council:  Alice Schweninger has served on the Hewitt City Council since 2006.  She is active with the Hewitt Historical Society and many other events.


 Council:  Darlene Fah, newly appointed interim Council Member, takes the place of a Council Member who has relocated away from the City of Hewitt.  Fah has been a resident of Hewitt for 18 years.  She is a very active member of the Hewitt Event Committee and is instrumental for the annual Pickle Fest.


Council:  Alex Weego, newly appointed interim Council Member, comes to us with many years of experience.  He was the Todd County Economic Development Director for 13 years.  Now retired Mr.Weego says that he has the time to be of public service to his community.  We look forward to his professionalism and knowledge.

City Staff

City Clerk-Treasurer:  Marsha Hansen came back to work for the City in April of 2010 after a six year departure.  She was the Clerk-Treasurer for the City of Hewitt from October of 2000 to March of 2004.  Hansen if very pleased to be back, noting that the people of Hewitt are the best there are.  She is a Certified Minnesota Municipal Clerk and Finance Officer and a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.


Operations & Maintenance Lead:  Aaron Fore has worked for the City of Hewitt Maintenance Department since February of 2006.  Fore was promoted to Operations & Maintenance Lead in October of 2009.  Fore has lived in Hewitt all of his life.  He resides here with his family.  Fore is a genuine asset to the city.


Operations & Maintenance Assistant:  Adam Templin has been with the City since November of 2009.  In addition to his role as Street Maintenance and Maintenance Assistant Mr. Templin is also a member of the Hewitt Volunteer Fire Department where he has earned the position of Assistant Fire Chief.
